Buehler’s Celebrates Liquor Store Opening

GALION – Since late last year, local residents have taken advantage of the shopping convenience offered by a new supermarket in the Galion West shopping center on Portland Way – Buehler’s.

The Ohio-based independent employee-owned store began a new chapter on Friday, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, signifying the official opening of their adjacent liquor store. The store located in the heart of Galion’s retail corridor is the company’s eighth liquor store. Its first opened in Ashland eight years ago.

Buehler President and CEO Mike Davidson thanked everyone for attending the ceremony, expressed optimism, and noted that the 20,000-square-foot store only took about four months from start to finish.

“So far it’s been above expectations,” said Ron James, beer manager at Buehler, director of spirits. “Customers like the class and bring back more. We have expanded the offerings and intensified the selection. We want people to come and easily get what they need.

On a pleasant summer morning, other speakers called the store “a huge win for the community”.

In brief remarks on Friday, Galleon Mayor Tom O’Leary said, “I don’t remember this mall being so vibrant.

The liquor establishment near the intersection of SR 598 and Route 19 is the location of 14th Buehler and is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and will be closed on Sunday.

While the supermarket features locally grown produce, a deli, bakery, and more, the new liquor store will carry all the beers, wines, blends, and adult beverages imaginable, as well as cigars from high quality.

In 2019, Buehler’s adopted a brand called Ohio Liquor OHLQ, which was developed by the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Liquor Control Division (OHLQ).

Buehler’s Fresh Foods grocery store was founded in 1929 by EL Buehler and his wife, Helen. In addition to Galleon, they operate in Ashland, Canton, Coshocton, Dover, Massillon, Medina, New Philadelphia, Orrville, Portage Lakes and Wooster, where Buehler’s headquarters are located.

The company recently raised more than $160,000, enough for nearly 650,000 meals, for community food banks during the Harvest for Hunger campaign.
